Title Fight on Paul Gale Network

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale idea article on Paul Gale Network

It’s been a good 10 days since Paul Gale Network provided you with an update on Title Fight, but do know that I have been working behind the scenes to try and do something special for you…and now’s the time to share it.  I contacted my source with the following proposal:

“What do you think about PaulGaleNetwork.com having a continuously updating article that isn’t used as a gateway for me to share information with my readers, but rather one that’d be a designated place on the web where the legions of fans that are so passionate about Title Fight can share their thoughts…ranging from concerns about the game, to voices of thank you’s, to real suggestions for the development team for Sony first party characters that HAVE to make it/recommended 3rd party characters, stages, items, music, and any other possible idea imaginable.”

I went on further with the pitch, saying that there are so many creative ideas that get shared online in the form of comment sections attached to articles and message board forums, but it’d be too difficult for a developer/publisher to sift through everything and pick the best of the bunch (especially with there being thousands of websites to gather information from).  This idea of mine was an effort to really try and attach the development team of Title Fight with the people that will be the cause of the game’s success: YOU.

My source was all aboard with the idea, but I also contacted both Sony and SuperBot Entertainment’s PR team to get their “ok” and thus have this idea be officially sanctioned.  Though at the time of this writing, SBE did not get back, Sony did and was optimistic.  So that being said, here’s how it will work.

From now on, if you have any idea about a character roster that you would like to see in the game, made up of either all Sony first party characters or with the inclusion of a few key 3rd party characters, share it here.  If you’ve got ideas of stages that you feel could truly work and have conceptualized every last detail, share it here.  If there’s a list of songs, items, ideas for a story mode, whole movesets for the fighters, different titles for the game to don, release date recommendations, etc…share it here.

What I will do in return is once a week, submit all new entries that Paul Gale Network receives from all of you, to Sony and/or SuperBot Entertainment (with my specific source receiving everything).  I can’t guarantee a response from them back to you, but at least you’ll know that everything you have to share, even if it’s a “thanks for making this game finally happen”, will make its way to someone that’ll actually read it.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you all have to say .  Also, this story will have a permanent spot in the upper left hand corner of PGN’s main page, alongside the currently featured article, Street Fighter Legends: Ryu (my fan made video project for Capcom).  Thank you all!

  1. I’m going to throw my voice into mix. For those who do not want to read… skip to the short version at the end of this post.

Who cares about characters and move-sets right now. It sounds harsh, but hear me out.

Smash Brawl had a huge roster and it still did not have everybody the fans wanted. So lets face it, a huge roster (20 plus characters) is not really realistic given that this is the developers first game in a possible series. Being the first game in a possible series, developers should be more focused on character balance and gameplay mechanics. Once they have made one game and have established mechanics, characters, movesets, etc., then in a further iteration of the game they are able to go crazy on the character count and other things because they can spend less time on coming up with characters and movesets and such.

So… my only request. Focus on making the mechanics the best they can be. That’s the most important thing for a fighter. Huge rosters do not make a fighter good. Very simply, look at Smash Brawl; it had a much larger roster than Melee, yet Melee is, in my opinion, the better game. Why? Because it had deep and unique mechanics (L-cancelling, wavedashing, etc.) which serious and competitive players could uncover and utilize. And it was pretty interesting to see Smash (a game originally meant to be a casual party-game) played at a high enough level to be put into EVO!

Furthermore, the reason the developers have to have a strong foundation for whatever mechanics they wish to implement is because radically changing the mechanics later can split the community. For example, consider the controversy around the Smash competitive scene when Brawl hit because of its lack of all the unique mechanics that Melee had. The result was a huge split in the community. And this split was not just seen in the divide among the pro players, but even small communities who held tournaments for fun were split. The small group (only like 10 people) I played Smash with was split and arguments ensued about what game to play. Some thought that Melee had the better mechanics and that it represented how far Smash could be taken. Others insisted that the new one was better and wanted to keep up with the apparent new direction and new scene.

In short, forget focusing on a huge roster… focus on the mechanics! Not only do the developers have to walk a fine line between accessible mechanics and technical mechanics (think easy to pick-up, hard to master), but these mechanics should form the foundation for the series and will be the mechanics from which subsequent iterations may be based on.

    Anyways, good luck.

    [SHORT VERSION/ CONCLUSION]

    Mechanics > Character Count

    1. I agree with you. The characters aren’t that important. I mean they are, but they dont make the game. I feel that with all these request people make, it wont matter because only 8 characters will be played. You can see it in marvel and brawl. People wanted sonic and phoenix wright in their respective games so. Now that they are in the game nobody (or a very few) play with these characters.

I feel that people who want cloud in the game will be disappointed because his moveset would probably be a lot like Ike’s in Brawl. Im sure he will have some type of magic, but FF fans are gonna expect him to play like advent children when he will be somewhat basic for balance. Then butt hurt fanboys are going to cry that he sucks instead of taking time to play with him.

I feel that game should be centered around tournaments more than how much Playstation nostalgia they can put in the game.

  2. should make lots and lots of DLC for a cheap price of course that way when they make the complete edition people would not feel as ripped off

    btw whens the next update?

  3. Hi!
the idea for this game is awesome 🙂 it can be a wonderful game..
but.. the fighting system is in 2D (brawl style) or in 3D (hmmm dragon ball tenkaichi series style)?
    boh xD however..
    my wish list is:
    *Nathan Drake – (uncharted)
    *Flynn – (Uncharted 2)
    *Cole – (infamous)
*Crash Bandicoot – (crash bandicoot) [please! is the most important character that i want in this game.. (NaughtyDog style) ..thanks in advance :’)
*Dr. Neo Cortex – (Crash Bandicoot)
    *Ratchet – (ratchet and clank)
    *Clank – (ratchet and clank)
    *Jak – (jak and daxter)
    *Daxter – (jak and daxter)
*Spyro – (spyro the dragon – Insomniac)
    * Ryu – (streeth fighter.. [but is capcom 🙁 ])
    *Sackboy – (Little big planet)
    * Sora – (Kingdom Hearts) – [the principal saga is propriety of sony?]
    *Riku – (Kingdom Hearts)
    *Kratos – (GoW)
*Snake – (Mgs.. but is appeared in brawl xD)
    *Croc – (Croc (Ps1))
    *Sly – (Sly Cooper)
and.. boh… with these characters this game should be a fantastic game!

  4. i figure we should focus on third party dlcs. scorpion, ryu and jin/kazyua the mascots of the genre would be a great boost. crash and spyro are possible but activision probably won’t co-operate. then again both are getting re-booted (skylanders was a once off) so its possible. sora is also possible given that most of the games with him playable are on soy systems and all the main games are sony ( bar upcoming dream drop distance). snake also could be included but that means going face to face with nintendo…. not fun. Bond however is a very bad idea. drake already fills the role of on the spot thinking and guns. once again i reckon namco and capcom will be more than willing to co-operate. hell we could nick pac and mega man from everynes dream brawl roster. if their in SfXT

  5. Here are some additional characters for the Title Fight roster:

    Ezio (Assassin’s Creed 2)
    Sackboy (Little Big Planet)
    Ratchet and Clank
    Crash Bandicoot
    Spyro the Dragon
    Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
    Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7)
    Cole McGrath (Infamous)
    Rayman
    Ape Escape Monkey (Ape Escape)
    Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
    Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat)
    Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
    Ryu (Street Fighter)
    Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
    Pac-Man
    Sonic the Hedgehog
    Sir Daniel Forteasqeu (MediEvil)
    Gex
    Goku (Dragon Ball Z)
    Globox (Rayman)
    MegaMan
    BomberMan
    Nariko (Heavenly Sword)

  6. I don’t know if you are still reading this Paul, but I just read all of the info on the game and would like to present my suggestions for characters.

Solid Snake (Metal Gear Series) – Snake has become synonymous with the Playstation brand despite debuting on the MSX. He’s been in 2 Smash Bros style games before (Smash Bros. Brawl, and Hudson’s DreamMix TV World Fighters), if any 3rd party gets in besides Snake it would be downright foolish and stupid on Sony’s part.

Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy 7) – The most iconic RPG character, and of gaming’s most well known heroes in general, I think his playstyle would be very unique. Since he made it into LBP as a sackboy, I think he could make it here.

Sir Daniel Fortesque – The Hero of Galamere! Probably Sony’s first “mature” hero before the likes of Kratos and what not. His arsenal could make him both a close and long range fighter.

Any Ape Escape character – The series is simply to iconic to leave out of the game.

Cole McGrath – With an appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken, it would only make sense to have him return in a fighter.

Nariko – Though she’d play just like a female kratos, we need more females in the game.

TOMBA! – I don’t care what you have to do, but unlike everyone else who want Crash Bandicoot or Spyro I think there is only room for one platforming PS1 Hero!

    Thanks for your time.

  7. JET MOTO STAGE???!!!! That would be PERFECT!!!!
As for characters, I only really care (besides the obvious ones) about the ORIGINAL spyro and crash, whose games were only good on the playstation. spyro’s resorted to selling action figures. Save him! This game needs to represent sony’s history and best games, not just the ones it has now.

  8. JET MOTO STAGE???!!!! That would be PERFECT!!!! and would definitely represent history for sony. im pretty sure u guys still own this? well uve tried to reboot it a couple times, and this could do it!

  9. items:
dualshock controller: throw it at oppenent to make them vibrate and recieve damage. if they dont ditch it, it explodes!

eyetoy: traps enemy player on a screen where they can stil move but to no effect. lasts only a little while.
or it stuns opponents with a flash

stages: jet moto-stage that, if good enough, could result in a comeback.

honestly i just want variety and references. the characters and trophies in smash bros introduced characters well known and obscure to everyone who played it. EVERY REFERENCE PUT IN A GAMEE LIKE THIS WILL BE GOOGLED, LOOKED-UP, AND TALKED ABOUT

  10. A few thoughts on random characters:

Gabe Logan- with rumors of a new Syphon Filter game, he should definitely be in.

Ape Escape monkey/ Spike- A very iconic PlayStation franchise such as Ape Escape should definitely get a rep, even if it has dwindled a bit in recent years.

Tag (ModNation)- With Sony’s announcement of a LBP racing game, I’m not sure how relevant Tag will be and for how long, so he might not deserve a roster spot. I’d love to see a ModNation stage either way, though.

Ratchet/Jak- Please please PLEASE don’t make them fight as a pair with their respective sidekicks (Clank and Daxter). Both Clank and Daxter are capable of being there own character, and they would make great DLC additions.

Scorpion- Or any Mortal Kombat character really, but I think Scorpion is the most iconic (Maybe Sub-Zero). But anyway, Mortal Kombat made the fighting game COMEBACK of the year last year, and also Sony let them use Kratos. These two things cmbine should be reason enough to put Scorpion in Title Fight.

Rayman- Rayman would just fit perfectly in this game. He would help balance the roster between the more cartoony characters and the more realistic ones. And again, he just made a big comeback with a fantastic game, Rayman Origins

LEMMING- THE PERFECT WTF CHARACTER!! He may not seem like a logical inclusion, but the Lemmings IP is owned by Sony, and he would actually have a pretty versatile moveset. He could use an axe, a self destruct, an umbrella for his recovery, and he has many other possible moves, too.

Nariko- A good female rep, it would make sense to include her, especially if you can’t get the OK to include Lara Croft.

Sir Dan- I have never played the MidEvil games, but Sir Dan is the man. He deserves an inclusion because he’s got a ton of moves as well as because he’s just plain cool.

Emmett Graves (Starhawk), Joel (Last of Us), and that bird/dog thingy (The Last Gaurdian)- I’m grouping these together because I’m justifying their inclusion with the same reason- supporting IP’s. We don’t yet know how successful these games will, but those are the three biggest games of 2012 for Sony (well, other than this), and including these characters is a perfect
    way to promote those games.

Wander- Shadow of Colossus is a phenomenal game and deserves a rep here. I assume his play style would be similar to that of Link in ssb, but I’m not really sure.

Crash Bandicoot- PLEASE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO INCLUDE CRASH!! Crash is solely responsible for the success of the PSOne, and without him that system would have failed, meaning that the PlayStation brand as a whole could have failed. Also, please use his original design.

So those are my thoughts on characters that are somewhat to extreme long shots for this game. I didn’t mention characters like Cole or Sackboy because I feel like they’re sort of locks for this game. Anyway, thanks for listening to our suggestions, and best of luck to everyone at SuperBot.

  11. This will be my last jet moto post. i think u should at least put a jet moto vehicle as a racer on a modnation racer or wipeout stage im sure ur developing, as a cameo.

  12. Im a big fan of the sly cooper, ratchet and clank and Jak and Daxter games.
I want to see Ratchet,Clank, captain quark and doctor nefarious in it and sly, murray, bentley and carmelita, also Jak, daxter, samos the sage and keira.
I havent played much older games such as paparappa the rapper and characters like that so id like to see characters from that era. Some people from modnation, haze, resistance, infamous and crash bandicoot( crash, cortex, cruch and maybe somone else) and other sony developed games.Im really excited for this game so please make sure you do it right

  13. Finally a miracle has happened! I just realized that my comments have shown up! Now I don’t have to comment in Botmob. Mr Gale, if you haven’t, please check my comments in Bitmob one last time. I have always reuploaded them. But now that i saw two of my comments in here, then I will share the rest of my ideas in this website.

  14. I know it sounds like a rip-off from MvC, but how about players can choose up to three characters and they can switch anytime as long as none of them are KO’d. If you read my idea for the controls in Bitmob, Mr Gale, I put no actions for the right analog stick. But how about pressing R3 to switch?

  15. I know this isn’t your problem, Mr Gale, but I’m looking for the right developer company where I can make all the IPs I have planned for Sony exclusives. Please hint me on what I should do, besides finishing school. I’m asking YOU because you seem interested in all that game industry stuff.
I’ve been planning on convincing small developer companies (that have no commercial attention) to merge into one stronger company. From there I’ll take over. I’m serious here, my games are pure gold, but I will never share any info on the web due to the risk of being ripped-off!

  16. Maybe you, Sony, and SuperBot should listen to ME more often. I’m a true Sony fan and I don’t make lists of some random, third-party characters that did little or nothing to revolutionize Sony!
No offence to any of you guys, but you make very poor lists of wanted characters. Lots of those mentioned are third-party, and some others aren’t even video game characters!
I do know that Crash and Spyro are owned by Activision, but they made the PS1 come to life! They, for example, are third-party characters that have a purpose to be there in Title Fight!

  17. As some of you people reading my comments might already know, I’m a future video game developer(mostly a writer). I always learn new things when I brainstorm ideas, and one of those things I learned was this. If you want your video game series to be successful, the one major thing to never do is to replace the main character!
Sound familiar? What do you explain Assassin’s Creed and Resistance, for example? Later in their sequels, Ezio and Nathan Hale die! How pathetic! Two creative protagonists and their creators choose to sentence them to death!
Stay with me, this is my point, Insomniac didn’t have their brains fully awake! I’m going to tell you what Insomniac could’ve done in Resistance 3(or what they could do if they think of a (Resistance 4). Nathan Hale should’ve survived his death and can now transform into a Chimera hybrid and back to human, like Jak can turn into Light or Dark Jak! Picture this, a third-person shooter Resistance game where you can use weapons and Chimera powers!
SuperBot, make Nathan Hale a playable character where his moveset is both weapons and powers. That might convince Insomniac to fix their error of Hale’s death!

  18. characters: (these character are the best in my opinion)
-Kratos (god of war): because without him, the game would be a complete disaster and every gamer of sony likes kratos.
    -Duke Nukem
-Sora (kingdom hearts): because every fight game needs an infantil character.
-Crash bandicoot (obviously from the game crash bandicoot jajja) because he is one of the inicial favorite character of playstation, PLEASE USE THE ORIGINAL VERSION WITH THE ORIGINAL DANCE the new version is not bad but he is not crash or you can have a costume for crash which yo can use the original version or de new version.
-Rayman (from the game which have the same name jajja): He is so funny and have the humoristic material that makes him abble to be in the game.
-Sackboy: Im really dont now why I want to see him in the game but is really funny.
The clown of twistead metal: I dont remember his name but he is the violent adition that every fighting game needs (think about it: kratos vs this clown waooo it really rules)

Stage: I dont have an ideas but I have one
-Sony’s party fight: This is an special stage because in this stage you can have an extreme stage that every period of time change.
-Def jam stage: all the rappers are shooting you and have a breakdance in the stage which are attack

    Items:
playstation controller: throw it at oppenent to make them vibrate and recieve damage. if they dont ditch it, it explodes! or you use it to controle another character and attack at all enemys

    PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT

  19. I had to join just for this purpose. Just for this game. I must say that if anything can hook me in without questioning, it’s a cross over fighter and Chrono Trigger. That said, I hope I don’t type too much, cause this is an idea I’ve actually written pages upon pages(practically a whole books worth)for YEARS on(I love working on game ideas, problem is no one else is willing to help me out). That said, here we go…

Characters: Some are a given for people requesting so I’ll merely list them rather than explain such as Solid Snake, Crash, Spyro, Ratchet, Jak, and Cole Mcgrath. As for those less considered…

Final fantasy hasn’t always been with Sony and even today is a multi platform series. that said, PS1 needed just a bit more of an umph back in 97 in order to be seen a true competitor for the N64, a console exclusive that even Nintendo fans would be jealous of and in came Final Fantasy VII. It’s proven the biggest successful series for Sony right behind Gran Turismo, and frankly the characters would easily belong in any mascot fighter in a heartbeat. The most preferable choices for people would be Cloud & Lightning. Cloud being the most famous(and frnakly with his iconic looks and moveset would actually fit as well as Mario does in Nintendo). Lightning because she is the latest, and quite frankly, very similar to being a female Cloud(as she was based upon).

If Final Fantasy could not be acquired Sony still has their own RPG series that would be excellent to touch upon(not to mention be first party)in Wild Arms and Legend Of Dragoon. Rudy or Dart would make for excellent characters, however knowing many of Sony’s characters are more serious realistic types, I feel Dart might make for the better representative of a more light hearted fantasy vibe(plus, Sony doesn’t have as many straight up swordsmen whom are always extremely popular). Combine this with the fact Legend Of Dragoon is a series under appreciated and games such as these are the perfect way to re introduce audiences to a character and you could recieve enough demand for LoD to appear in PSN which would help a vast amount with the respect for RPGs which are slowly but surely making a comeback.

Gameplay wise, honestly many of the same arguments I made for Dart could be made for Sir Daniel Fortesque the lead of Medievil.

Sack Boy would be good however I feel a little as though it’s a bit common place to simply use the creativity influenced character with just generic moves and that his creative side should influence any inclusion of his. Such as a character creator. Nothing complicated, more so just the simple costume type of thing, design Sack Boy based on different costume parts for him on his legs, arms, head, etc. And depending on what you put on him would give him different moves. Part of a knight outfit gives him a wooden sword swing, a robot gives him a grappling hook, etc.

Steve Butler. Come on, I shouldn’t have to explain this. This guy is just that awesome.

Stages: Here you can get quite creative with a few universes…

Fat Princess Base: Here I’m thinking the steel locations of either Black Forest or Great Gorge. Though Hot Sauce would work very well too…
You battle at the location of the base with loads of soldiers at the outset fighting with eachother. When you get knocked off you’ll land in the soldiers and get KO’d by them(just like the chaos of the actual game :D) If you try to exit, this would differ on the stage but Black Forest you be in the water and drown, Great Gorge, the bridge is out and you’ll fall in a pit, or Hot Sauce you’d walk in the lava and burn.

Midgar: This is if Cloud were in the game. I must admit, while not a fanboy of FFVII(not that I hate it, love the game just not rabid about it), I must admit Midgar is a personal choice for me as I’ve always loved the location.
Midgar would take place on the iconic train of the begining. This way one could display numerous locations. You start off on the train, battling, a simple flat surface. As the train goes on you need to jump off(to avoid getting KO’d by the screen)at different locations such as landing with the church in the background, onto the Shinra building elevators, anything you want, and then when the screen signals to hop back aboard the train.

Items: This one would poking a bit of fun at Sony but…A PS3 controller used a boomerang that briefly stuns opponents and breaks after a third hit.

This is the best I can do for thinking on the fly. Plus I don’t want to overtype and make this too long. If I could find my old files admist so many, I could bust out much much more.

I digress, my last words are simply that anything that gets put in is bound to become iconic and recognizable. Notice how Smash Bros includes characters normally no one has heard of and no one would ever play their games? Then suddenly any unknown characters included become just as big as everyone else. If you have any series you want to bring back but have never been able to, now’s your chance.

    Have a nice day all!

  20. Characters:
    Dan – Street Fighter
    Devil Jin – Tekken
General Shephard – Mass Effect 3
    Isaac from Dead Space
RAIDEN (PLEASE) – Metal Gear Solid
Agent 47 (is that his name?) – Hitman
    Alice – Alice in Wonderland
    Death – Darksiders
    Dante – Devil May Cry

    Stage ideas:
-One with a boss and his area from Shadow Of The Colossus
    -The Bridge in Infamous 1
-A stage related to Kratos, maybe with Ares and nymphs that you can heal you
-A crazy stage, maybe one on the XMB where you fight on an enlarged icon and you move as the stages navigates the menu and there could be a part where the stage goes black from being restarted or something
    -A motoStorm stage
-An MLB The Show stage possibly?

    Game modes:
-Definitely something like stamina mode from ssb
-Maybe a story related adventure, on a 3d plane, like Jins side-game in Tekken 5
    -Boss Rush mode
    -Capture the Flag
    -King of the Hill
-Kill the man with the (insert item here)

  21. I forgot to mention Jade or the Pig from Beyond Good and Evil
    Items
-Athena’s Blade from God Of War
-A weapon from Jak and Daxter
    -A stun grenade

    Ideas
-Please have Sweettooth with his sword
-Custom Character Palette Swapping like in SF:Alpha 3
-You must include a stage like Final Destination from SSB
-Try to include a variety of game modes: like tag team, team, solo..
-Online ranking system (Pretty obvious but i thought id state it)
-TROPHY COLLECTIONS! but instead, let them be statues.
-For the story mode, add an rpg element to it, such as leveling up skills and stuff. This will make it more replayable.

  22. MAXIMO FROM MAXIMO:ARMY OF ZIN
    Maybe a Gundam?
    Tak from Tak and Juju
    Shadowman?
    Someone from Dynasty Warriors
    A Katamari stage
    ONIMUSHA
The cop from TrueCrime:Streets of LA
    SOMETHING FROM DARK CLOUD
    Shinobi

  23. Ideas
-Please have Sweettooth with his sword
    -Customizable character pallete?
-Statues instead of trophies from ssb
    -Have tons of music available
-Maybe someone from Fighting Force (That prehistoric but memorable game on ps1)
I can keep on going but thats a huge list

  24. Also, dont forget Scarlett from Dead Nation and James Bonds’ final smash could be him escaping the stage on a helicopter and then the giant Goldeneye satellite falling onto the stage. One of his attacks should utilize the laser on his watch and his recovery move should be like the claw in 007: Agent Under Fire

  25. Just some item ideas but the mechanics should be made first and foremost that is what is most important, just throwing that out there

    hermes boots- move faster
    jetpack- (not too long)
haze drug canister- move faster and do more damage but lose health quicker
    disco ball- dancing enemies
    petrusite grenade- explosive damage
    fat princess cake- regain health
Patapon item- calls patapons to attack
Uncharted Artifacts- Can throw and also possess individual properties (faster, more powerful, spawns spiders something like that)
Icarus Wings- Grant user flight for short amount of time; could replace jetpack
Paintinator- shoots paint which causes damage
Snake armor- Go invisible for a little bit of time
Transfarmer- lock on weapon turning your opponent into a farm animal for a short amount of time
Maybe something like a pokeball but you throw the game cartridge/disc of it and then a character from that game assists you
A Charged Baseball Bat- (I know it sounds like a rip off but we have The Show as an exclusive to Sony)

Just a start i know not many great ones but they got a a bunch more ppl thinking of this and are probably way ahead of me haha looking forward to more info paul!
Claymore- Explodes when player steps on it
Dark Eco- Jak and Dax- similar to haze drug)

  26. I don’t know if you are still taking requests, but I really want to see Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon in this game. They are very iconic characters, fully deserving of a spot on this game, regardless of their current 3rd party status, and Crash was the PS1 mascot. PLEASE!

Other choices I would like, Croc, Jersey Devil, Rayman, Robbit (from Jumping Flash), Spike (or someone from Ape Escape), Prince (Katamari Damaci games) Abe (Abe’s Oddysee)

Any of those characters I would l love to see, but please have Crash and Spyro!!!!

  27. Stages –

    Ubermall (Wipeout HD)
Reasoning – Wipeout needs representation, variety in visual design, strong brand pull

In Ubermall, racers whiz by at blinding speeds, and will cause MASSIVE DAMAGE (no pun intended) to anyone hit, and can KO already weak fighters. The part of the track this stage is set is the hill with the pickup pad at the top. There is a red X in the center of the stage, a weapon pickup pad, which will give items when touched. The vehicles in wipeout can be attacked, blown up, and have items salvaged from them. When a player is KO’d, the announcer will calmly state “Contender Eliminated.” As for stage music, there are tons of tracks in wipeout that would work. Because racers whiz by, fighters will alternate between fighting and scrambling for the space on the other side of the hill that racers will fly over in an attempt to save themselves.

    Train Ride (Uncharted 2)
Reasoning- Moving stage, very frantic pace, people LOVE Uncharted 2’s train sequence.

Very iconic to many fans, this train ride is the perfect set piece for a thrill ride of an arena. With mooks firing onto the train every so often, and a changing layout, there are so many ways to fall off and go squish. Players battle each other on a scrolling stage, where lagging behind means you drop off the stage, and it seems as though there’s always more train! I can see very frantic fights here, with plenty of chuckle-worthy KO’s and overall tons of fun. Others have expressed desire for this stage over and over and over and OVER, and it’d be a dumb mistake NOT to include it!

Antarctica – The Drop Zone (Twisted Metal 2)
Reasoning – Very unique, replayable, memorable locale, nostalgia, variety in play mechanics

The frozen continent of Antarctica, so full of natural wonder. Too bad it’s falling apart piece by piece. A tall ice island in the middle of a chilling sea, the stage initially starts out HUUUUUUGE. There’s plenty of room to run, plenty of ice hills to get a height advantage from, and lots of breakable stuffs. There is even a teleporter to a tinier island far off of the main island (remember that?) to take a break on. But, cracks start to form in the chunks. The piece begins to rumble and split, and then falls suddenly to its final resting place. Going down with it is an instant KO, and there is less room now to maneuver. This is a very dynamic stage, and one that most Twisted Metal fans remember fondly. It’s chilling orchestral score needs little touching up, and the sheer replayability of this non-linear stage in immense. The ice does not always fall in the same pattern, and sometimes the middle will fall off instead, leaving a large gorge in the center. All different playstyles have a chance of getting a leg up here, with ranged fighters trying to stay on their own island, to bruisers corralling the little guys to smaller islands. Eventually, just one piece will be left, one small chunk for up to four to fight over. Let a match go on too long, and its goodbye to elbow room.

Moscow – Suicide Slide (Twisted Metal 2)
Reasoning – A very “Pure” stage (not many gimmicks or flashy features), stage is well liked in the TM fandom

The famous bowl of carnage returns. Deep in Moscow, a missile silo stands unused. The bridges are still here, and offer a quick means of going across the stage (yes, if you fall into the middle you can run past the bottom of the bridge as if it weren’t there.) and give plenty of flat space to fight in… but the bridges can be destroyed, thus changing the ENTIRE playstyle of the stage. After the bridges break, the unique shape of the bowl funnels players into the bowl below, where serious blows will be exchanged between the stronger characters. Ranged fighters can peg each other and lob nasty projectiles into the middle, creating an interesting dilemma: You both do and don’t want to be in the center. Most of the action will be between characters charging into the center, and those struggling to get out. Sure, they can knock you over the chain-link fence and off the stage (the fence can be knocked down to add some more room on the sides of the bowl) but most of the losses are going to come from CQC in the middle of the stage. The hard rock of the original theme needs little tending to, and can be left pretty much alone, although I’d add more orchestral emphasis in the slower parts. You know, it’s kind of weird how Twisted Metal’s stages fit so readily into a game like this. It truly is a fighting game in cars.

Assault on Cyburbia (Twisted Metal 1)
Reasoning – Nostalgia, variety in stage design, representation of a launch title in an important and long running franchise

As if this stage needs any introduction. Based on the final normal level of the original, where you fought every vehicle at once, this stage had three main areas: The canal, the neighborhood, and the highway. The level should be structured so that each area gets its share of the action. The left side consists of the Canal, or a bit of it, anyways. The canal is like a mini Moscow, with slopes on both sides and a large flat plain filled ankle deep with water of questionable quality. You can be knocked over the left side of the canal into the source of said questionable water, the power plant drainage system, and suffer an instant KO. The canal area is good for straight up fighting, but exhausted players can hit the ramp and run into the suburb, consisting of a street, the Gas station with puzzled onlookers, and a few reporters and various cars parked on the side. Players spawn by the gas station, by the way. The battle can be pushed right, and into the highway, where familiar vehicles from Twisted Metal 1-4 will be whizzing up and down the streets, firing at each other and sometimes dropping a mine in one of the lanes. The vehicles can be blown up through enough damage, but they respawn. Remember that put-down, “go play in traffic!”, and emulate it. Players can be hit by the oncoming cars, and knocked over the side of the highway into the lake below. I hope you can swim! Cyburb Slide, the country rock track in the original, is yet again a song that needs very little touching up. It would fit the hectic and fast paced nature of the stage. You’re going to see the battle move along like a giant tug of war game. The fight is going to get knocked back and forth the suburb and occasionally spill out into the canal or highway. The gas station area isn’t very big, only consisting of said gas station on the right side of the lot and a bar next to it (with houses in the background) and simply serves as a gateway to the other KO prone areas. Experience players are going to try to corral inexperienced players into the highway, knowing the dangers and trying to use said cars to their advantage. Inexperienced players are going to view the canal as more friendly, and flock there because of its less dangerous appearance.

    New Marais (InFamous 2)
Reasoning – InFamous 2 is well liked, has strong association with PS brand, unique theme

In InFamous 2, Cole travels to New Marais to try and fight The Beast, along the way either saving or dooming the human race. New Marais is a colourful town filled with all sorts of unique landmarks, and offering the perfect place for a street brawl to break out. Citizens and bored militia alike cheer on the side of the street as the combatants bash each other over the head and knock each other into various crates and planks. A flat stage with a few garbage cans and other debris that can be broken, characters can be knocked off the stage into a river on the left side. Characters with higher weight and attack speed will do better here than lighter ones. There is a large, un-climbable building on the right side that adds a focal point, characters want to be near that wall to keep their distance from the river, and characters with ranged weapons would do best to back up against it and fire at oncoming fighters in a keep-away attempt. The music can be a faster paced remix of the InFamous 2 theme

    Black Water Falls (Jet Moto)

I’m sure everybody who’s owned a PS1 (and a few who owned a PC, back when Sony thought it was also a PC developer…) has probably played this game. It was hard as nails, but a fun thrill ride, and had its share of memorable tracks. But the one that stands out the most is probably Black Water Falls. Black Water Falls was set on a river in the swamp, and took you through mud, water (duh) and down a waterfall into a gorge only to start the whole thing over again. In order to see the stage in all its glory, you must structure it based around hanging out on a moving platform. I’m not talking about a Mute-City style floating platform, I’m talking a rickety raft floating at high speeds down a river, but not fast enough to miss the scenery! The raft itself allows for ample moving room, and a few platforms attached to it for some extra vertical space and room to run. Players knocked off the raft await a watery respawn, and the chaos goes on despite the racers in the background and foreground whizzing past and wiping out. The raft will float all throughout the stage, and the classic track, brought up to date (fun fact, it’s also the theme used for Holland- Field of Screams in Twisted Metal 2) plays in the background. I’ll leave it up to you guys whether or not there should be any interaction with the environment (maybe attacking some of the passing racers, having said riders and bikes whizzing over the raft and dealing damage, etc.) should be implemented.

Other stages people have mentioned that I stand by:
    The Graveyard (MediEvil)
    Ridge Island (Ridge Racer)
    Paris Rooftops (Sly Cooper)
    LA Rooftops (Twisted Metal)
    Mt. Olympus (God of War)
    The Collector’s Lair (LittleBigPlanet)
    Dimitri’s Nightclub (Sly Cooper)
    Oxide Station (Crash Team Racing)

    Items –

    Minion (Twisted Metal 2)
Minion’s tank drops into the stage, flattening anybody dumb enough not to run screaming and sobbing. Invincible, he’ll roll about the stage blissfully KO’ing anybody who tries to pick a fight with him. Deals HEAVY contact damage, and his Serpent Missile Special weapon will freeze players as well as dealing heavy damage.

    Militia (InFamous 2)
A squad of militia will drop onto the stage, firing at enemies for you. They can be KO’d, and can fall off the stage.

    Smoke Bomb (Sly Cooper)
Throw it, and where it lands it creates a cloud of smoke. It may not be the most effective cloak, but it covers a wide area and you can use it to catch someone off-guard.

    Shield (Wipeout)
Activate this shield (which also plays the SHIELD ACTIVE sound clip) and sneer in the face of death with your temporary invincibility! Does not work for falls, or environmental deaths that would normally be an instant kill.

    Remote Bomb (Twisted Metal 2)
Drop it to arm it, and hit whatever your item button may be to detonate it again. Be careful not to get caught in the blast.

    Cloaking Device (Metal Gear Solid)
Pick it up and you become hard to see while moving, and COMPLETELY INVISIBLE while standing still.

    Blast Shard (InFamous)
The Blast Shard is an interesting item. Collecting five will give you a temporary boost to your speed and attack. You can pummel shards out of characters, too.

    Flash Bomb (Warhawk PS1)
Pick it up, and all enemies around you are instantly dazed. Capitalize on this for a good beatdown!

    Characters-
    Sir Daniel Forteasqeu (MediEvil)
    Reasons He/She should be included-
Memorable game and character, fan demand, strong moveset
The undead, fearless knight who singlehandedly (quite literally, seeing as how he throws his other arm as a weapon) took down evil wizards, giant insects, and ghoulish… ghouls. Sir Dan has a multitude of pointy pokers and projectiles, such as a greatsword, an axe, crossbow, longbow, daggers which can be thrown, and even his own arm! Sir Daniel Also has a charge, and spin attack, and lots of vitality. He’d be hard to KO through normal means, but lacks a solid recovery, allowing for easy falls. He’d be hard-hitting,with decent mobility, but don’t bother with his air-game. He couldn’t jump over a fence.
    PREDICTIONS-
Sir Dan’s might and high endurance may lead new players into a false sense of security. Perhaps thinking he’s nigh invincible, they will inevitably try and emulate Leeroy Jenkins, and rush into combat without a care for life and limb. But when Sir Dan takes enough damage, he can be knocked far off the stage. His pitiful recovery will discourage most from playing this character on any stage with large gaps or falls, but a strong melee game and decent ranged capabilities make this fighter well rounded, and may take Sir Dan into the competitive realm as a good all-rounder. I can foresee heavy competitive use.

    Kingsley (Kingsley’s Adventure)
    Reasons He/She should be included-
First Party character, “Obscurity” factor, pays homage to earlier years of SCEA, strong moveset

Who? Yes, if Sony made it their mission to forget this guy, they have succeeded. Which is a shame, since his game wasn’t even that bad. Developed by Psygnosis (Whom Sony purchased near the beginning of the Playstation’s life cycle) this is a First Party character! Kingsley is a fox cub raised in the Carrot Castle, and he sets out to fight Bad Custard, an evil wizard who wants to rule the land (who doesn’t?) Kingsley has a multitude of cute little weapons, which, due to their small size and light nature, would deal little damage. Kingsley is agile, and plays a good defense:he may be light, but his higher jumping and small frame make getting out of tight spots easier. He’s easy to KO, but hard to get ahold of. Kingsley is easy to knock off the stage, but hard to keep off the stage. With quick, nimble moves and some strong weapons as superbar moves (he has a gamut of weapons and ranged bruisers, in bite sized form) he’s got a big movepool. Kingsley is not a character that should be used to charge head on into the fray, but one who should get in fast with quick attacks and pick fights with easier targets. His Level 3 may make use of his “True Knight” armour, granting a temporary burst of speed, strength, and jump height.
    PREDICTIONS-
Kingsley would have a bit of a learning curve. His fighting style would be more along the lines of a Servbot from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Lots of quick attacks that aren’t the most lethal, but can be chained together to keep other players in a combo, racking up the damage. With Kingsley, it all boils down to making sure you always a) have an escape route, and b) can keep the opponent locked in a combo. New players will probably think the character is weak and move on, but those persistent will find that keeping a flurry of attacks is the best option. Kingsley also has a crossbow, not the fastest weapon ever, but it could be used to close the distance or heckle a particularly strong opponent from afar, weakening them for your assault.

    STORY MODE –

Please… PLEASE make a genuine effort on the story mode. Characters should have interactions, motivations, and it should be adequately explained why all this is happening. A long, cinematic quest would be a lot better than a few random matches and an ending that clocks around 2 minutes (yes, Capcom, that is LAZY.) Perhaps in the style of a “hub” type realm, where player(s, perhaps online and offline co-op is an option) will be able to muck around, learn the controls, etc. and head out into the field when they’re ready to search for that artifact, defeat the evil army, or whatever it is heroes (and villains) need to do. Lots of character interactions, dialogue, and places to go would be appreciated.

    RELEASE DATE-
Please, take your time. With a game this ambitious and with so much that can go afoul, make sure you guys feel like it’s ready, and don’t listen to impatient fans about release dates. As a hobbyist game developer myself, I know how hard it is to get things working right, and even harder to make something you feel comfortable with sharing with the world. Take all the time you need.

    POST RELEASE SUPPORT-
This game should have plenty of post release support. And not just DLC (although fighters and stages at a reasonable price would be very much appreciated) Bugfixes and balance tweaking are going to be needed (These issues are almost impossible to catch in the development stage, it’s the players who find new and interesting ways to break the rules who find these.)

    MULTIPLAYER-
This is a very social genre, and should have plenty of multiplayer. Offline multiplayer should be in every mode there is Online multiplayer too. Stat tracking doesn’t need to be super-complicated, either. Maybe a player card type deal, with their favourite character and stage (These should be chosen by the player, not the game making a decision based on playtime) maybe a wins and losses counter, and an option to give a player a good or bad reputation point. A simple “Thumbs up, thumbs down” system, where it can go either into the positive or negative, and you should only be able to give a player one vote (you should be able to change it, maybe the guy wasn’t that big of a jerk after all and you want to change it to a positive?) When jumping into an online multiplayer, players like matchmaking. If players with similar amounts of games played + total playtime are paired with players with similar games played + total playtime then things go smoothly. Wins and losses should not be counted for or against a player, it is how many games they have played start to finish and how much total times that real competitive gamers care about. There should also be a quick match/social mode, where full microphone communication is enabled (but can still be disabled player-side) and stages are chosen by vote from a choice of four. Matches here are aimed at the more relaxed, fun loving crowd who play the game, but aren’t really worried about their own personal records, they just want to meet other people and have fun. You should be able to bring a local (offline, second controller plugged into the system type local) friend using this mode, and of course there should be a private mode.

    Thanks for listenin’!

29. hey Paul. first I’d like to thank you for reporting this info and getting SB and Sony’s support in the Process. taking roster Picks for their new game is a magnificent Idea. I’m currently working on a Blog over at Smashboards that talks about my dissection of your character info(still being updated too!) http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=14220283#post14220283

anyway, since you said they take roster requests, here are mine, and a stage Idea to boot:

    -Ape Escape Rep
this is probably going in anyway, but I feel any rep from this series is viable. a Popular choice is Spike(from the first AE), but personally I would want to see Specter-with Teleportation, Sheilds, fireballs, and mindcontrol options, he could play like Mewtwo should have in Melee.

    -Sir danel Fortesque
Medieval Main character, while he has swordplay options(plus the items from his games like a Musket and such) the real charm comes from using himself as a weapon. he could detactch parts and Launch themas Projectles to use against his foes.

    -Nariko
while she is pretty much confirmed already, I still have a unique moveset idea regardless(lol). I say she should have a Glass cannon design-her sword froms give her great power, speed, and range, but like in the gams, the Heavenly sword slowly drains her life Away. pretty much it would make players much cautious when using her, but rewarding to master, similar to Phoenix in MvC3.

Dart: there is a reason why he is one of the most requested Sony characters. 1, Legend of Dragoon is freaking awesome. and 2, he is built for this. the combat system in LoD was built to utilize combos anyway, so he could come in this game no prob. but the best part comes from his Supers-his Lv. 1 and 2 can turn him into his Red Dragoon form, which gives him a power ans Speed boost until it runs out, much like in the game. but his Lv. 3 gives him Divine Dragoon form, which on top of the normal forms gives him the DIVINE DRAGON CANNON, an immense attack that is an almost guaranteed OHKO.

-Robbit: from jumping flash, i would not be surprised if it’s announced/unlocked last, to be a surprise character. the mecha buny has terrific jumping options, nimble speed, and good projectiles, so it could be the Pikachu of this game.

    now, the stage.

Colossi- pretty much a no brianer, this stage has you fight on Top of one of the Colossi from shadow of the Colossus-it would contort and move with the battle raging on top of it, much like the Gaia level in GOW3. but the real charm could come from the item- a becon(or something) that summons Wander, who then does battle with the Colossi while the battle is raging on between the players on top of it. this stage would be the ultimate way to reflect how interactive this game would be.

I hope you take these suggestions to heart, guys. thanks.

  30. (note: I tried posting earlier but I think it didn’t go through, so try try agian!)

Ok then, first off, thanks for reporting this and getting the OKs from Sony and superbot-hate to see you get backlash for this. now you said to provide character ideas for a roster, and that I shall do 🙂

-Ape escape rep: probably one is going in anyway, but it’s just the question of Which one? a popular choice is Spike and for good reason-using all his gadgets would be fun, but for something different, I’d reccomend main Baddie Specter-his first game alone gave him a powerful charage beam, teleportation, mind control, and barriers that he used, so he could be a fun character to build a moveset around. on top of that, for his Lv. 3 he could just go into his Gorilla Mech and cause total chaos.

Sir Dan: heavily requested in this area, he would utilize swordplay and his items from the game(the musket and other such tools) but his real charm comes from using his own body parts as a weapon.

Gabe logan: while he may seem like a basic gunman, he would utilize a more tactical approach to combat compared to the other Trigger-happy Sony characters. due to is Flak Armor he can take hits no prob, and his taser gives him a tool to use in close range. his specials could(of course) incorporate a way to utilize his trademark Headshot move or he could use the Syphon Filter virus as a weapon.

Dart: one of-if not the-most requested classic Sony characters, and for good reason. Legend of Dragoon’s battle system utilized combination attacks already, so makihng a moveset would be a breeze. but the real fun comes from his specials. his Lv. 1 and 2 could turn him into his red dragoon form, which effects his stats], ging them a boost until the meters drain(much like they did with LoD), but his Lv. 3 could turn him into Divine dragon form. it lasts less time, but he gets The divine Dragon cannon as a super-a move with devastating results.

Robbit: from Jumping flash, he is to Sony what mr. Game & watch is to nintendo-a refelection of the very early years in the companie’s past. with the unique ability to triple jump, along with nimble moves, a laser, and using time effecting items, he could have a really fun moveset.

    I’ll post more ideas later…..

  31. Greetngs Mr. Paul Gale, I’d like to thank you for this information, and I’d also like to thank you and everyone at Superbot for coming up with this ideal game for this corp.

Since the title of the game is going on surveys, here’s my suggestion: PLAYSTATION or SONY TITLE FIGHT
Simple and to the point, yes, beats PLAYSTION ALL-STARS BATTLE ROYALE, don’t you think?

And here are some roster ideas:

    Spike (Ape Escape)
    Scarlett Blake (Dead Nation)
    Ellen (Folklore)
    Lazarus Jones (Ghosthunter)
    Kat (Gravity Rush)
    Nariko (Heavenly Sword)
