Walter Day was born on May 14th, 1949 in Fairfield, Iowa and is best known for being a professional video game referee/scorekeeper. His foray into the industry was in 1981 when he opened up an arcade called Twin Galaxies. It would become something much greater as for nearly the next three decades, the man would be in charge of overseeing hundreds of attempted world record breaking scores from gamers all over the world.

E for All Expo 2008: Walter Day and Paul Gale

I met Walter at the E for All Expo in the Los Angeles Convention Center, in 2008 and what a person filled with history he was. We spoke about the great feedback that “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” received, his career, and much to my surprise…kinesiology. Kinesiology is the study of the human anatomy and its movement. Why exactly did we start talking about exercise and whatnot at a games convention?

Walter first asked me about my background in the industry and what else I do as a hobby, and when I mentioned that I have a degree in Kin., he expressed a great interest and said he finds the science intriguing. I thought two things right off the bat when I met Mr. Day. First was how much time he was giving me, despite him needing to be at the show to attend to different matters and secondly, his genuine interest in my other field.

There aren’t a whole lot of other gamers or people associated with the video game industry that I meet, that care about health and fitness as much as I do, so it was very cool to be at such an event and to learn that Walter was an interesting character, more-so than he appeared to be based off the story I already knew.

These days Walter is pursuing his music career and officially retired from Twin Galaxies in 2010. If you are interested in learning more about my friend, curious to see what are the different, official Top Records (even recognized by The Guinness Book of Records) out there, and even submit your own, please visit his site: TwinGalaxies.comTwinGalaxies.com. Thanks Walter for really being a cool guy and best of luck with your music and whatever you do from here on out.
