Ten days ago, I announced in this article that the list I saw for the 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards was a solid one with good surprises and now that the event is over, here’s a look back on the event:

1] The Last of Us = Naughty Dog finally revealed the full trailer for the game that’s been building up hype as of late. I know that this PS3 title will be one of the biggest titles for the console in 2012…perhaps second only to Title Fight, which was first revealed here on Paul Gale Network over a month ago. The Last of Us looks amazing and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more.

2] Mass Effect 3 = BioWare’s big trilogy-finishing game showed up for the second year in a row at the Spike TV Video Game Awards and this time it brought with it a very healthy amount of new gameplay shots. It’s going to rock.

3] Command & Conquer: Generals 2 = You know, I did provide a hint for BioWare’s secret title by saying that the theme for their game is “trending” in the video game world today and war games most certainly are. Short trailer, but satisfying nonetheless.

4] Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots = When I found out that Ubisoft would be showing a new Rainbow 6, I was pretty happy and I’m pleased with the trailer. It looks like 2012 will once again have no shortage of shooters/war themed games…but at least there seems to be some potential quality ones in there.

5] Alan Wake’s American Nightmare = This is an Xbox Live title and for me personally being a big fan of the first Alan Wake, I left happy with the trailer and can’t wait for the download.

Shigeru Miyamoto accepting the award for The Legend of Zelda series becoming the first game/series inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame was awesome. Congratulations to Mr. Miyamoto, Nintendo, and Zelda…you deserve it.

6] The Amazing Spider-Man = I knew that Spider-Man was going to be at the VGAs, but didn’t know that Tony Hawk would be introducing it, so that was a bonus. As for the trailer itself, it’s probably too early to tell what caliber of game it’ll be, but here’s hoping that Marvel will ensure it’s up there.

7] Transformers: Fall of Cybertron = We might not have gotten a gameplay look at the game, but there’s no denying that from when Stacy Keibler finished announcing the reveal to when the video ended, it certainly looked nice. Here’s hoping it’s solid.

8] Fortnite = The game just sounded so different that from the get-go, I really wanted to see what Epic Games and Cliff Bleszinski’s new title looked like in motion. You’ve got my interest, that’s for sure.

9] The Dark Meadow = Even though it wasn’t shown on TV, it’s worth checking out. Impressive looking is what I’d call it, for the Android market.

10] Diablo III = Blizzard Entertainment definitely knows how to create beautiful FMV’s and the premiere of Diablo III was no different. The opening cinematic alone has me in full anticipation mode. Bring it on!

11] Bioshock Infinite = Thank you, Irrational Games and 2K for wrapping up the night with a great world premiere for the next game in the Bioshock series. There’s no doubt that people will get this one no matter what the trailer looked like, but still…nicely done tease.

12] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance = You knew it was going to be here, but didn’t know that it was getting a new title. I think it’s cool and thought that it was probably the best overall trailer of the night. Konami and PlantinumGames put something really nice for the show and as soon as I get my hands on it for the first time, I’ll be sure to tell you as much as I can, because PGN has a big Metal Gear community following it and I know you’ll want details.

And there you have it. The 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards is done and with it came some awesome premieres and some great, new videos of games we already knew about. For those of you wishing that Title Fight was present, like I said before, it’s a game where information on it is sparsely given, but the good news is that I will have something more for you before December is over. As for why I didn’t just tell you in advance that Title Fight wouldn’t be at the VGA’s, my source that gave me the list for the event did so to excite me. I was appreciative of that and wanted to let you know that it was worth watching, but if I said that Title Fight wouldn’t be there, and you just avoided the show at all costs because of its lack of presence, it would have been a bit of slap in the face to my friend. I hope that you did enjoy the treats of the evening, even it though PGN’s Title Fight wasn’t present. But in time folks…

    1. I knew that Title Fight wasn’t going to be at the Spike TV Video Game Awards before I saw the list that my friend provided, but even after, couldn’t confirm nor deny it as I didn’t want to foil Spike’s plans. You’ll see more in the future and I’ll have something for you all before the year is done.

  1. hey paul any chance you may be able to tell us when title fight may be revealed? i thought the VGAs were a bit disapointing this year. the only thing that really caught my eye was the last of us. that will be epic. i was hoping for some twisted metal to be show

  2. are all the characters gonna play differently?, cause i dont want it to be that u master 1 character and u mastered them all since they all play the same
