Here is the best selling software and hardware in Japan, for the week of June 5th – June 11th courtesy Famitsu.

Software this week was a fun one as Diablo IV debuted on three platforms, with each charting, Street Fighter 6 having a fair drop between its two SKUs, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom holding onto its #1 position despite some solid competition.
Hardware is the real talking point though, as Nintendo Switch had its first 100,000+ week in a while, which is an amazing achievement for a console in its 76th month of availability. For the record, last year on this same week, NS sold 58,436 units. For the year to date, the console is selling 84% of what it did in 2022, which is an exceptional hold.
Nintendo Switch did 4.8 million in Japan in 2022. If it continues to operate overall, at 84% of that total, then it should sell 4 million for the calendar year of 2023, which is what I suggested it would do, back in 2022
It has done 1.75m so far this year, so it needs to do another 2.25m. That also brings its total to 32 million by December 31st. Nintendo DS is the best selling console in Japan’s history, sitting at 32.99 million. Nintendo Switch is pretty much guaranteed to pass this before June 30th, 2024.
PlayStation 5 also did better this week than the one prior, with a respectable 8,000 more, but it was that Diablo IV Xbox Series X bundle that really helped out Microsoft, giving their console a 27x boost. The next big game launch in Japan and world wide is Final Fantasy XVI on June 22nd, which will no doubt be #1 in sales for the opening frame. See you next week!
