On August 17th, Paul Gale Network posted a story about Nintendo currently developing a 3D Mario game for Wii U, tentatively set for a 2013 release. In that article, I confirmed that this game was in fact, in development and that despite it seeming a bit obvious, I knew from my source that at least now we didn’t have to “assume” it was happening.

It’s been less than a month since that piece went up and now, according to WiiUDaily.com, their own source in Japan has revealed to them that a massive Zelda game is in development for Wii U and is set to come out in 2014.

Nintendo has assembled the biggest team ever to work on a game at Nintendo EAD 3 in Japan. “They got hundreds of people working on the new Wii U Zelda game”, which still hasn’t got an official subtitle. The development is once again led by Eiji Aonuma, who has been working on the game with his team since late 2010.
“It’s a 4-year development cycle with a new console, new technology, new engine etc. It’ll end up being the most expensive game they’ve made to date. It’s a huge investment for them [Nintendo] in money and manpower, this is Rockstar/GTA territory”. Nintendo originally planned to release the game in Fall 2013 to strengthen the Wii U against the new consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but apparently that didn’t turn out to be realistic. “They targeted a 2013 release, but quickly abandoned that goal. This is the biggest project they’ve [Nintendo] ever done, no way is it gonna be ready for Q3 2013. At least from where I see it”.
Wii U Daily

The site goes into much more on the game said to be in development, including how big the dungeons are, the size and scope of the title, its ambitious music, online features, excellent innovation with the Wii U GamePad, and an art direction/visual style of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but in full HD.

I personally don’t know anything of this title said to be in development, but in the event that we get a 3D Mario and a New Zelda in back to back years, the Wii U is looking more and more like a powerhouse of a console. If PGN hears anything on this story or the 3D Mario one originally uncovered, you’ll hear about it.
