The designer of PlayStation Move, Richard Marks, revealed in Edge Magazine that he feels that buttons will forever hold a place in gaming and that they’re just too important to ever fully take out. Here is a piece from the article:

“Buttons are irreplaceable as an input device. Too many buttons are overwhelming, but one single action button is very powerful feeling. For core games you really do need a set of buttons to quickly choose things. Trying to replace buttons with gestures doesn’t work very well.”

I also agree that buttons are very important to gaming, as they give you a satisfying feeling (them being contact sensitive and all) when you press them to perform an action. Buttons’ functionality on controllers have also been pretty much perfected in the variety you can get out of them. Don’t get me wrong, I do like motion gaming when done right, but there’ll always be certain games that I’ll need to have a good old fashioned controller to enjoy…like Street Fighter.
