What an exciting week it was in Japan for hardware and software sales! First up, we saw Bayonetta 3 debut as the second most (physically) sold game, which outperformed Platinum Games’ 2019 release, Astral Chain (32,236). The reason for the reference is that AC was the company’s last original title for Nintendo Switch and proved to have a high digital presence. Also seeing that Bayonetta 3 topped Splatoon 3 on the Japanese eShop for the week, bodes well for the game having a total Japanese first week of sales, of above 80,000.

The next point of interest is seeing eight new titles on the chart and that the Nintendo to PlayStation split was 6-4. On the hardware side, it was the first time in two years that PlayStation 5 outsold Nintendo Switch in Japan. Yes, by only 232 units, but still…you don’t see this too often. Nintendo has been saving their inventory for the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet themed Nintendo Switch OLED Model which lands on November 4th and the pair of games which arrive on November 18th. Fun times ahead.

See you next week!
