In Nintendo’s latest financial report, they shared a great amount of data on their collective history of hardware and software sales, with one of the most impressive being the fact that since 1983, the grand total of first party games sold is around 4,015,400,000. That number is simply mind blowing. Over 4 billion games in 29 years? Awesome.

Hardware-wise, Nintendo has sold more than 638.5 million units. It should be noted that in their financial report, it’s listed as 637.75 million, but that’s only because they’re not including Virtual Boy sales, but I’m counting them for the sake of observation.

Here’s a look a more detailed look at some interesting breakdowns:

Hardware

1] Nintendo DS = 152,500,000 (DS Lite = 93,850,000, DSi = 27,390,000, DSi XL = 12,470,000)
2] Game Boy (including Game Boy Color) = 118,690,000
3] Wii = 97,180,000
4] Game Boy Advance = 81,510,000 (GBA SP = 43,570,000)
5] NES = 61,910,000
6] SNES = 49,100,000
7] Nintendo 64 = 32,930,000
8] 3DS = 22,190,000
9] GameCube = 21,740,000
10] Virtual Boy = 770,000

Software

1] DS = 917,610,000
2] Wii = 842,200,000
3] Game Boy (including Game Boy Color) = 501,110,000
4] NES = 500,010,000
5] SNES = 379,060,000
6] Game Boy Advance = 377,420,000
7] Nintendo 64 = 224,970,000
8] GameCube = 208,570,000
9] 3DS = 64,450,000

Ratio of 1st party games sold per console

1] GameCube = 9.5 to 1
2] Wii = 8.5 to 1
3] NES = 8 to 1
4] SNES = 7.5 to 1
5] Nintendo 64 = 6.5 to 1
6] DS = 6 to 1
7] GBA = 4.5 to 1
8] Game Boy = 4 to 1
9] 3DS = 3 to 1

That’s an incredible list no matter how you look at it. And keep in mind that the 3DS has only been out for 1 year and a half, so it no doubt has plenty of room to grow. Next up: Wii U! I can’t wait to see how it does for Nintendo in this next generation. Check back on Paul Gale Network in the future, for more stat updates.
