On March 17th at the British Academy Video Game Awards, Peter Molyneux received the very honorable BAFTA Fellowship award and now joins Shigeru Miyamoto, Nolan Bushnell, and Will Wright as its fourth recipient. Along with receiving such a great award, he also took the time to talk about one up and coming developer, Markus “Notch” Persson (creator of Minecraft). Mr. Molyneux stated that he’s a big fan of the game and enjoys playing it a lot…so much in fact that he’s even calling it the best game he’s played in the last 10 years.

Peter went on to ask that we as media journalists highlight the up and coming talents that this industry has to offer, because there are a lot of brilliant minds out there. One of the things that we at PGN learned at the event is to expect some truly fresh concepts from Microsoft at E3 this year. Peter said that in order for the industry to grow and for new ideas to continue being pumped out, we need designers that don’t necessarily have the experience on their side, but fresh concepts.

I believe that a proper balance of the tried and true with the fresh new minds is best for the industry. In my opinion, we still need our old favorites to not only give us more of what we love, but also be teachers for the people entering the biz. Now what could Mr. Molyneux mean by “fresh concepts” from Microsoft at E3? It seems like each time we meet, there’s always a certain sense of confidence, all the while being humble, about what’s to come. I think it’s safe to say that at E3, Microsoft will have at least one entirely new ip or something exciting regarding Kinect, a new console that takes things to the next level, or something that is so fresh of a concept that no one could even guess what it is. Here’s to E3!
