Shigeru Miyamoto was recently asked what’s his favorite Mario game in USA Today and for what reasons is it his favorite. He responded with 1993’s Super Mario World, and it was because it best captured all of the action seen in Super Mario Bros., but also had the map features which provided the element of players having to think about where they were going and what they wanted to do next.
He also stated that it was a game that developed a large number of staff, in which many of those people from then on became producers and directors, further proving that the “making of” the game itself was an important part of history.
I now pose my own question to all of you, “what’s your favorite Mario game and why?”
Id say Mario Galaxy 2 if it wasn’t for Mario 64. It was way ahead of its time, and the only Mario that comes close to Mario Galaxy 2’s level design. Too bad Galaxy 2 didn’t have much of an overworld design. Super Mario World had the best one though. The rainbow stars were dope too. Secret levels ftw!
I’m going to have to say Mario 3 is my all time favorite. Why? Because it was so new compared to all the games we were used to at the time, we got all these amazing powerups like the frog suit and you were always wondering what is next? What awesome thing are we going to see in the next world or level.. It was just an amazing game in its time and it still holds up as a great platformer today.
personally i think mine is actually super mario galaxy. although i don’t think it is the best or the most revolutionary title in the series by any stretch of the imagination (which is saying something about the rest of the series), it was however the game out of the series which gave me the most ‘wow’ moments, and and i think it was overall a great laugh to play, with very little frustration, ever, which is very difficult in a platformer.
Super mario galaxy 2 would have been my favourite, because it is an all round better game, however, because i had all the stars on the original, it kind of took away alot of that initial shock and wow factor that made me love mario galaxy in the first place.
Mario Galaxy 2. It is so much fun to play. I still have one more star to get and I haven’t even tried to get it yet. The level is so intimidating becuase you only have one health bar pie piece.
