Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic’s turning 20 and will be celebrating his birthday in a big way.

If you thought that Sega was giving Sonic some attention this year with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Sonic Colors, then wait until you hear what they’ve got in store for him in 2011.

First up: Sonic’s 20th Anniversary
Don’t expect this to be a copy and paste project, because it actually might be the Sonic game that fans really want: a beautiful re-imagining of Sonic’s best levels over the years from multiple games…all in one title. According to my source within Sega, Sonic’s 20th Anniversary (unofficial title) may feature levels from any of the blue hedghog’s titles, be them 2D or 3D, but all will feature modernized visuals, updated music, and tighter controls. I’ll tell you this, if its 2D levels can look as good as Blob Van Dam‘s Sonic video from a few months ago and the 3D zones even better than Colors’…I’ll be very pleased. It also looks like the game will see different versions on Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, 3DS, DS, and PSP.

Next up: Mario and Sonic 3
This game is another Mario and Sonic at the Olympics game, which will be related to the Summer Olympics, 2012 event to be held in London, England. What I have been told is that Sega is really aiming to try and bring back Sonic’s popularity, but only through quality efforts (this makes sense due to Sega recently taking off of store shelves, poor to average rated Sonic games), and that’s why they’re taking out some of the mechanics that made the first two games less than stellar and are fine tuning the gameplay. Expect this one on Wii, 3DS, and DS.
