Here is the best selling software and hardware in Japan, for the week of January 23rd – January 29th, 2023 courtesy Famitsu.

Software:

1) Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (NS) – 40,759
2) Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet (NS) – 37,265
3) Forspoken (PS5) – 29,055
4) Fire Emblem Engage (NS) – 28,442
5) Splatoon 3 (NS) – 14,844
6) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (NS) – 13,138
7) Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless (NS) – 10,359
8) Minecraft (NS) – 8,399
9) Nintendo Switch Sports (NS) – 8,231
10) Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! (NS) – 6,041

Hardware:

1) PlayStation 5 – 62,908
2) Nintendo Switch – 51,108
3) Xbox Series – 1,265
4) PlayStation 4 – 1,061
5) Nintendo 3DS – 74

This week brought with it a few new titles, including the top spot taken by Story of Seasons. Neither it nor Forspoken and Disgaea sold particularly well, but they all benefited from the late January “calm”, which is why they were able to place.

In hardware, PlayStation 5 was the top selling platform of the week and for the rest of this upcoming quarter, I imagine that it and Nintendo Switch will be swapping positions fairly often. We’ll see how things pan out for the remainder of the year, especially with big software exclusives coming out on both consoles. See you next week!
