Satoru Iwata had a meeting with investors in Japan today and with that, we have some new information from Nintendo. For starters, Mario Kart 8 now has a release month in May, some 3 months after Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. PGN hopes that there’ll be at least one other exclusive Wii U game coming from Nintendo or a third party in either March or April, to avoid too long of a drought for the system in the early goings of 2014.

Next up is that soon, Wii U will be getting a couple of new features in an update. One will allow games to be quickly booted up upon turning the console on and the other will see certain Nintendo DS games come to Wii U’s Virtual Console.

Other interesting points from the meeting include Nintendo licensing its characters out to new avenues, a Nintendo Network ID system that will be future proof and integrated some way into smart phones, and a yet-to-be revealed approach at improving the “quality of life” in people everywhere. It’s a different angle than Wii Fit and the Balance Board and something that’s not worn like the Wii Fit U Meter.

Whatever Nintendo’s got up their sleeve, it’s sure to surprise many of us. Stay tuned to Paul Gale Network for more as it comes.
