Enterbrain just released the hardware sales numbers for all major platforms in Japan during 2011 and they are as follows:

1) 3DS = 4,135,739
2) PSP = 1,960,177
3) PlayStation 3 = 1,467,261
4) Wii = 937,451
5) Nintendo DS = 711,204
6) PlayStation Vita = 402,794
7) Xbox 360 = 114,075

We’ve got what’ll be an interesting battle between 3DS and PlayStation Vita in the year ahead and with them, the only thing that’s a guarantee is that both will see higher numbers as both will enjoy their first “12 month” year. For what’s it worth though, 3DS really did pick up in 2011 towards the end and it looks like it’ll do just fine. The PS3 vs. Wii match was pretty close as well and I’m now I’m excited to see Wii U debut as it will likely be the the only new console to come out in 2012. DS posted some impressive numbers despite its age and Xbox 360…well, it certainly did better than its predecessor in its respective year, but sales this year will probably drop way down unless a big title comes out. Congratulations to all and here’s to this year being much bigger!
