Nintendo released some sales data from 2011 today and it looks like for the most part, they’re happy with how the year went. True, perhaps Wii did drop off compared to 2010’s figures and the 3DS did have a less than stellar first few months, but overall…the numbers tell a solid story.

Just for United States:

Wii = More than 4.5 million
3DS = More than 4 million
DS = More than 3.4 million

This brings Wii’s US total to a whopping 39 million and DS’ to an incredible 51 million. With there being approximately 300 million people living in the United States, that means that there is roughly one DS out there for every six people. Pretty impressive. Other highlights include Mario Kart Wii passing 11 million units sold and New Super Mario Bros. for DS passing the 10 million mark.
