If you’re wondering just how well the first of the 4th quarter months did in the video game industry, look no further. For the month of October, we’ve got the following reports:

1] Xbox 360 = 393,000
2] 3DS = 250,000
3] Wii = 250,000
4] DS = 180,000
5] PS3 and PSP hardware sales are not known…they could be anywhere on this list.

Overall, October was a pretty healthy start for the beginning of the final quarter of 2011, hardware-wise. 3DS is up to 1.65 million units sold in the United States thus far and Nintendo expects it to top the DS’ year one numbers. Xbox 360 sales are up 21% over October, 2010…ranking in a cool $490 million to start the “pre-holidays” month off nicely.

1] Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC)
2] Batman: Arkham City (360, PS3)
3] NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, PSP, Wii, PS2, PC)
4] Rage (360, PS3, PC) – 550K
5] Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360)
6] Dark Souls (PS3, 360)
7] Madden NFL 12 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP)
8] Forza Motorsport 4 (360)
9] Gears of War 3 (360)
10] FIFA Soccer 12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PS2, 3DS)

Software sales were good too, seeing Batman and Battlefield both topping 1 million copies sold across all platforms (with the latter topping 2 million). It’s going to be very exciting to see the crazy numbers come in for November and December. Here’s to another awesome holiday season for everyone. Thanks NPD for providing the facts as usual.
