Sony NGP: Next Gen Portable on PGN: Paul Gale Network
NGP on PGN

Today during Sony’s GDC panel on the PSP’s successor, Next Gen Portable, we finally got more specifics on the handheld’s storage ability. According to Sony, the device itself won’t feature an internal hard drive, but rather each game card (which will be either 2GB or 4 GB) will have 5-10% of space for save data, patches, etc.

This means that at the very least, NGP’s games will be 1.8GB in size on the smaller cards and at least 3.6GB on the bigger ones. Although nowhere near as large as the PS3’s max capacity in its Blu-ray games (50GB), NGP’s smallest games will be at least as big as PSP’s largest (PSP UMD games range from 900MB to 1.8GB). Sony also made a comparisson to current smart phone’s file limitations of 10MB.

The last bit of news to come out of Sony was that an exernal hard drive of sorts (via some type of card) will allow users to download and save content from the PlayStation Network.

  1. Hey,
Cool bones, this way there is more for media and that sort of junk. Wish ps3 disks worked this way:)
    Just a friendly remark,
“This means that at the very least, NGP’s games will be 1.8GB” I think you mean -at most-
    Otherwise cool bones!
