Nintendo DSi XL

Nintendo released the folowing in an official press release today:

“Since its European debut in March 2010, as part of the Nintendo DS range, the Nintendo DSi XL has sold over 3.6 million* pieces of hardware globally, taking the total number of the Nintendo DS range of handheld systems to over 132 million** systems. In addition to the stylish wine red and dark brown systems still available in stores, players will be given a wider choice of colours to choose from, as yellow, green and blue join the offerings!”

First of all, 3.6 million units of hardware for the DSi XL alone in the last 6 months, is a solid number. More impressively though, is the fact that since November 2005, the DS line has moved over 132 million pieces of hardware…that’s just incredible. By the time the system is done selling for good, which probably will be a couple of years from now (even when the Nintendo 3DS is out), its final number will be close to 150 million in my opinion.

  1. LMFAO Sony
I bet as soon as Pokemon Black & White is out the NDS will be 160 mill or more. Funny how PS2 is soon to be 2nd. And when the N3DS is out, it will expand it even beyond 200 mill! Just the other week Sony is now releasing the PS2 again in other countries it has not been released on. That goes to show Sony is scared and trying everything to stop their PS2 sales getting over taking by Nintendos DS. Also its funny if you think about it, if the NDS wasn’t closing in on the PS2 record. Sony would have not released the PS2 to the countries it has never been released on since the day PS2 was made. Goes to show how fucked up Sony is and its all about money to them. Fuck You Sony. NDS/N3DS FTW!!

    1. *SonyFailed, I think that the Nintendo 3DS will be counted separately from DS/DS Lite/DSi/DSi XL sales, similarly to how the entire Game Boy Advance line is totally different than its Game Boy/Pocket/Color predecessor(s). The 3DS will on it’s own, perform very well.
