The 3DS was the big winner in the hardware market for 2011, selling over 2:1 to its closest competitor which was PSP. Meanwhile, another “near” 2:1 battle was between PlayStation 3 and Wii (the latter of which is now 4.1 million ahead in lifetime totals). 2012 will be really exciting to see how 3DS and PS Vita stack up against one another and I’m personally stoked for a new console in Wii U and wonder how it will be received.

3DS was the only hardware in 2011 to have two games…in fact, any at all cross the million sales mark (with one more being a mere 15,000 off), but PSP, PS3, Wii, and DS all did have a couple titles each that did at least 500,000. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching the numbers get big again in 2012. I wouldn’t surprised at all if this year, Japan sees a few titles that easily cracked 2-3 million in sales. Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter 4, I’m looking at you.

Hey Paul.
How are things looking for that Wii U scoop, are things going well towards that end of the month unveiling?
