Here is the best selling software and hardware in Japan, for the week of August 14th – August 20th courtesy Famitsu.

Software:

1) Pikmin 4 (NS) – 54,904
2) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (NS) – 16,859
3) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (NS) – 12,861
4) Minecraft (NS) – 9,994
5) Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet (NS) – 7,996
6) Splatoon 3 (NS) – 7,586
7) Nintendo Switch Sports (NS) – 7,386
8) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (NS) – 7,313
9) Mario Party Superstars (NS) – 5,909
10) Animal Crossing: New Horizons (NS) – 5,699

Hardware:

1) Nintendo Switch – 77,780
2) PlayStation 5 – 37,411
3) Xbox Series – 1,327
4) PlayStation 4 – 611
5) Nintendo 3DS – 97

Pikmin 4 was once again the best selling game of the week, with the rest of the Top 10 also being quite familiar. Something of interest though is that next week, the gap between Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild will be less than 400,000, physical, in Japan. Very impressive considering how long each game was out for.

In hardware, Nintendo Switch was the best selling console for the week, also besting itself last year in the same week. Now, 2022’s NS sales are only 152,000 ahead of how much the platform has sold this year. The gap is continuing to close. See you next week!
