Wii U was originally expected to sell 9 million consoles world wide, ending March 31st, 2014. That number has now been lowered to 2.8 million. In addition, the 38 million units of Wii U software that was once Nintendo’s goal of hitting, is now 19 million.

Next up, the 3DS, which despite being the best selling platform throughout the entire 2013, also needs a forecast revision. Nintendo was anticipating 18 million pieces of hardware to be sold and has lowered it to 13.5 million, for this fiscal year. They have lowered software sales for their handheld from 80 million units to 66 million.

2014 will probably be Nintendo’s toughest uphill battle, but with great quality software on the way that’s spaced out evenly, compelling exclusives, and intelligent marketing, Wii U can turn around.
