It was announced today that sometime soon, Nintendo Power will have its final issue. Though it’s not known yet just what volume number it’ll be, we’re being told that it’s going to happen in a matter of months. The publication has been around since 1988, making it just a year shy of existing for a quarter century…and who knows, it just might make it to 2013 and hit that 25 year mark.

I’ve been a subscriber for close to two decades and have issues dating back to an even earlier time in the magazine’s rich history, that I picked up from the newsstand and the like. There are definitely a lot of fun memories that Nintendo Power has given me over the years and even a half a dozen issues that I appeared in.

A couple memorable pieces of me in the ‘zine were when NP called me the “Real Life Ryu” and the one to unite the nerds of the world, together, and the time I got interviewed in a feature for my decade plus tradition of carving video game themed pumpkins.

So yes, it’ll be sad to see it go, but hopefully the final issue is a great sendoff to all of the fans that stuck around for so many years. PGN will update the story when more details emerge…namely when the last issue will come out. It’s my recommendation that even if you never picked up an issue, to get the final one. If anything, at least you’ll be a part of the end of an era.

Update: Nintendo has revealed that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power with the December, 2012 issue. I suppose it’s as fitting of a month as they come to “end” something, but part of me wishes that it made it to 2013, if just so that it’d hit the 25 year mark (though still not “technically”…as it’d have to last until July/August). This will definitely be worth owning in my opinion.

  1. This is some sad news, it will be missed greatly by many Nintendo fans. I remember when I had a couple of the magazines in the 90s. I will forever remember them.

  2. as some of you all know Nintendo power is being shut down please sign the petition so hopefully we can get this bad decision reversed
