Famitsu.com has updated their list for lifetime hardware sales for each of the 7th generation and current generation (3DS and PS Vita) platforms in Japan.

1) Nintendo DS = 32,855,741 sold since December 02, 2004
2) PlayStation Portable = 18,737,441 sold since December 12, 2004
3) Nintendo Wii = 12,433,321 sold since December 02, 2006
4) PlayStation 3 = 8,112,613 sold since November 11, 2006
5) Nintendo 3DS = 6,355,287 sold since February 26, 2011
6) Microsoft Xbox 360 = 1,554,547 sold since December 10, 2005
7) PlayStation Vita = 756,451 sold since December 17, 2011

From the previous generation of game systems in Japan, the Nintendo DS has by far been the most successful, and though we only have two platforms in generation 8 thus far, the 3DS to PS Vita ratio is 8:1. It’ll be very interesting to see how this new generation unfolds once Wii U comes out and the eventual release of Sony’s and Microsoft’s next main consoles.
