Nintendo just announced that the 3DS has hit the 5 million sales mark in Japan in a week shy of one year. For compassion’s sake, the DS took 56 weeks to achieve that number and the GBA took 58. With 3DS currently doing quite well in Japan thanks to Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3G, and Resident Evil: Revelations…in addition to upcoming big releases like Luigi’s Mansion 2, a new 2D Super Mario Bros., Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Monster Hunter 4, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 3DS becoming the fastest platform to hit 10 million in sales as well.

3DS seems to be doing just fine in Japan.
