When the DS launched back in 2004, one of my favorite little applications that came with the system, was PictoChat.  If you’re anything like me, there’s no doubt that you probably had your fair share of sketching out funny pictures, making stories, and sharing them with your friends.  The limitation was the proximity you had to be in with a bud, but that also brought forth some charm (nothing like seeing your friend burst into laughter after something you drew pops up on his DS).

7 years later and several hours ago, Nintendo released a free download called SwapNote, for all 3DS owners.  All you have to do is go to the Nintendo eShop Channel and click the button.  This software allows you to share sketches, similarly handled like in PictoChat (but without type-text)…over wifi with people on your friends list and with complete strangers via StreetPass (oooh boy that’s gonna be scary).  I seriously love it.  You can attach pictures, add voice messages, draw in two layers of 3D, make page by page stories, etc.  I’m having a lot of fun with it and if any of you are 3DS owners, add me as a friend.

I hope you enjoy this little treat from Nintendo.  They’ve seriously been on a roll lately with the 3DS!
