In the recent issue of Famitsu Magazine, Capcom revealed a couple of development updates for their upcoming Resident Evil titles for the Nintendo 3DS.

Resident Evil Mercenaries on Paul Gale Network

Resident Evil: Mercenaries is approximately 70% complete according to Capcom. With this news it’s likely that Mercenaries will be out within a month or two of the 3DS’ launch. It also looks like in Mercenaries you will be able to run and shoot at the same time…something that will surely make many RE fans happy.

Resident Evil Revelations on Paul Gale Network

Meanwhile, with Resident Evil: Revelations, it’s roughly 20% complete so at the earliest, maybe it would a prime title to release during the Halloween-Mid November time period in 2011. Revelations’ story is set in time between Resident Evil 4 and 5, and takes place on a giant cruise ship that’s infested by creatures, somewhere in Europe. The story follows the original Resident Evil’s Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine and that a number of other BSAA members will pop in throughout the title as well.

The game’s producer, Mr. Masachika Kawata told Famitsu that Capcom’s main goal is to set the gamers with a great sense of fear, cleverly combining traditional RE scare tactics from the past with impressive 3D effects that the 3DS will deliver uniquely. (I’m glad to know that the game will be about fear first, personally). Mr. Koushi Nakanishi, the game’s director, said that since this is a new title for 3DS and will be catering to a new fanbase, Capcom didn’t include too much story connection to past RE titles, but did put in enough fan service to make long time series veterans happy.

Furthermore, the camera system will be more advanced than in past RE games, allowing for extra movement (you’ll be able to freely change your viewpoint), including being able to run easily while your gun is equipped. Finally, Capcom hinted at the game having an “easy play control”. More on these two games in the near future and thanks to Toshi for the translation. Ossu.
