I don’t exacty know who began the phrase of, “It’s on like Donkey Kong”, but I’ve heard it used many times over the years. Some places include a scene in American Pie 3 where Steve Stifler talks to Paul Finch, a part in Ice Cube’s 1992 song, “Now I gotta Wet’cha”, and John Bradshaw Layfied (JBL) using it to call the action on WWE SmackDown!

I’ve comedically used it as well during my light sparring practices with opponents over the years (but never during a professional fight, because it’s too funny of a phrase) and like it.

The reason why I bring this topic up today is because Nintendo of America is looking to secure a trademark application for, “It’s on like Donkey Kong” so they can use it to promote Donkey Kong Country Returns like so: “On Nov. 21, It’s on like Donkey Kong™!” Good luck Nintendo.
