Kotaku has been keeping track of what are the most played Wii games by gathering known facts about sales, the time those games have been played by official data on the Nintendo Channel, and pretty accurately coming up with a formula that fills in the gap that is “gamers who don’t go online with their Wii consoles” (in which that data would not be tracked in the Nintendo Channel, since you need to be connectev via WiFi for your numbers to contribute).

Here then, we see that the long time #1 most played Wii game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, is about to be toppled by Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3 Tri. It’s always exciting when something like this happens. Now in case you’re wondering, Brawl’s sales are leagues higher than Tri’s, but this data just reflects “overall time spent playing.”
