Here is the best selling software and hardware in Japan, for the week of May 8th \u2013 May 14th, 2023 courtesy\u00a0Famitsu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow! Take a look at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in that #1 spot, with 1.1 million in physical sales…which we know make up half of the combined 2.24m that were sold in Japan its its opening weekend. World wide, the game sold over 10 million copies, which is mind blowing. At the base $70 a copy, that’s $700 million…a number that most video games and movies in the box office never reach. My expectation is that the figure is closer to $800m, due the Collector’s Edition being available and for $130. Another notable part of software this week is the placement of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In its 75th month of availability, it managed to be third for a week. Awesome.

In hardware, Nintendo Switch came in at first, doubling PlayStation 5 and once again outselling everything else combined. On an unfortunate note, all momentum that Xbox Series had in Japan, with multiple promising weeks in a row, has really hit rock bottom. Hopefully Microsoft can get back to decent levels of shipment and in general, interest in the country once more. Big congratulations to Nintendo and here’s to next week!
