The following is an official press release from <\/a>Nintendo of America<\/a>, and it talks about just how well the Wii has performed in its first 45 months of availability in the US market. I have to say that personally, I’m really impressed with the company on their success and wish to see them continue. I think Wii will have an easy time doing that too, with titles like The Legend of <\/a>Zelda: Skyward Sword<\/a>, The Grinder, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and The Last Story…to name a few.<\/p>\n

What a difference a couple of generations make. Nintendo was #1 during the 8 and 16-Bit era (generations 3 and 4), then fell to #2 in generation 5 (<\/a>Sony PlayStation<\/a>\/<\/a>Sega<\/a> Saturn\/Nintendo 64), #2\/3 (depending on where you were in the world) for the 6th generation of gaming which included PlayStation 2, <\/a>Xbox<\/a>, and GameCube, and now is #1 again with Wii, against rivals PS3 and Xbox 360 (generation 7). Generation 8 is going to kick off first with the Nintendo 3DS and I’m looking forward to it!<\/p>\n

\n30 million Wiis in United States alone is impressive.<\/p>\n

Nintendo\u2019s internal sales figures show that the Wii\u2122 video game system has now sold 30 million units in the United States alone. This significant milestone was reached in just 45 months. This further establishes Wii as the fastest-selling console in the history of the industry, reaching this milestone 15 months faster than the next best-selling console.<\/p>\n

Wii launched in November 2006 and ushered in a new era of video games. The built-in motion controls of the iconic Wii Remote\u2122 controller drew millions of new players to the world of video games. Kids started playing with their parents and grandparents, people got up off the couch and got active, and seniors and baby boomers formed virtual bowling leagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences,\u201d said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America\u2019s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. \u201cThis milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others \u2013 all at a value-minded price.\u201d<\/p>\n

To continue building on this foundation, Wii has a strong slate of games on the way for the fall. These include <\/a>Metroid\u2122: Other M<\/a> on Aug. 31, Samurai Warriors\u2122 3 on Sept. 27, Kirby\u2019s Epic Yarn\u2122 and Wii Party\u2122 this fall, and Donkey Kong Country\u2122 Returns, FlingSmash\u2122 and Pok\u00e9Park\u2122 Wii: Pikachu\u2019s Adventure for the holidays. That\u2019s in addition to New Carnival Games from 2K Play in September, NBA JAM from EA Sports in October, GoldenEye 007 from Activision and Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft this fall, and <\/a>Disney Epic Mickey<\/a> from Disney Interactive Studios and Sonic Colors from SEGA during the holidays.<\/p>\n

The Wii video game system is now available in either black or white at a suggested retail price of $199.99. That price offers a great value to consumers, as it includes two engaging games, Wii Sports\u2122 and <\/a>Wii Sports Resort\u2122<\/a>, as well as the Wii Remote\u2122 and Nunchuk\u2122 controllers and a Wii MotionPlus\u2122 accessory, which brings additional precision to specially designed games.<\/p>\n

The 30 million milestone is a good time to look back at all the fun Wii games and experiences that are just not possible on any other system. One of the unique features of the Wii platform is that many games follow an evergreen sales trend that keep them selling over long periods of time.<\/p>\n

According to the independent <\/a>NPD Group<\/a>, the top 10 best-selling Nintendo-published Wii games in the United States (through the end of June) are:<\/p>\n
