On August 1st, 2010, <\/a>UFC<\/a>‘s up and coming martial arts star, Jon “Bones” Jones will be taking on the seasoned fighter in Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko. The fight is free on Versus, but if you want to see the action live, you can still buy tickets for only $40 and attend the fight in San Diego, California at the Sports Arena.<\/p>\n

\nJon “Bones” Jones<\/p>\n

<\/a>Jon Jones<\/a> is a 23 year old with a record of 10-1. You could even argue that as far as “winning the fight” goes, he’d actually be undefeated, but his one loss comes from using illegal, downward striking elbows on Matt Hamil, in his last fight. Jones showed maturity though, despite his relatively young age, because instead of throwing a fit and arguing with the referee’s decision, he owned up to his mistake and in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, said that he needs to evolve.<\/p>\n

Jon has a few things on his side when coming into this fight. First of all, he’s got height (6’4″). He also has a very explosive fighting ability, with good athletic conditioning, and is pretty well versed in wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai. This will be the 6th time that he’s fighting in the Octagon and his 12th professional mixed martial arts fight overall.<\/p>\n

\nVladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko<\/p>\n

<\/a>Vladimir Matyushenko<\/a> is a 39 year old mixed martial artist who has been fighting for a decade. Don’t necessarily shrug him off though, due to him being 16 years older in this fight, because he brings an awful lot of experience to the table with a fight record of 24-4. When someone has won 86% of their fights over a 10 year span and through almost 30 matches, you know they’re comfortable with what they do.<\/p>\n

Vladimir is a very strong 205 pounder (light heavyweight) and will be fighting for the 8th time specifically in the UFC. He’s coming off a 2 fight win streak, with his last win being from Eliot Marshall in March, 2010. He gives up 4″ in height to Jon Jones, but he has fought taller people before.<\/p>\n

Fight prediction: Winner = Jon Jones
\nI appreciate the quality of fighter that Vladimir Matyushenko is, but Jon Jones is my pick because I think that his precision and explosiveness will be too overwhelming and that will bring him a knockout victory. It’s going to be an exciting fight and I’m definitely tuning in.<\/p>\n
