I like to see what people are playing, what trends are going on in different markets across the world, etc.

Hardware Sales

1. Nintendo DS [DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL] – 1,390,176 / 30,550,765
2. PlayStation Portable [PSP, PSP Go] – 1,243,802 / 14,630,257
3. Nintendo Wii – 934,010 / 10,436,009
4. PlayStation 3 – 827,906 / 5,219,313
5. Xbox 360 – 103,481 / 1,301,354
6. PlayStation 2 – 53,216 / 21,856,978

As you can see, DS to PSP really is Wii to PS3. The sales for the year thus far reflect that and the sales in total further prove my point. Xbox 360 is still doing a lot better than its predecessor, and amazingly, Sony’s PS2 continues to chug along 10 years later.

Platform Breakdowns:

1. Nintendo DS – 35
2. PlayStation 3 – 24
3. PlayStation Portable – 23
4. Nintendo Wii – 16
5. PlayStation 2 – 1
6. Xbox 360 – 1

Not only does the DS hold the crown in hardware, but it also has the most amount of big selling games on it.

Company Breakdowns:

By Total Sales

1. Nintendo – 5,490,000
2. Square Enix – 4,060,000
3. Konami – 2,280,000
4. Bandai Namco – 1,790,000
5. Capcom – 1,190,000

Nintendo specifically sold the most amount of actual games and as you can see, only Japanese developers make up the top 5.

By Number of Titles

1. Konami – 19
2. Nintendo – 15
3. Bandai Namco – 14
4. Square Enix – 11
5. Capcom – 8

Just because Nintendo sold the most amount of actual games, that doesn’t mean that they sold the most amount of different indivudual titles. Konami takes the cake in that department.

Here’s to seeing how the second half of 2010 looks like in Japan, as well as the eventual sales of hardware and software all around the world.

Famitsu is at it again and this time with six months of information compiled together.
